In today’s podcast episode, I break down 5 common interview questions and provide insight from the perspective of the interviewer.
Tell me about yourself
With this question, the interviewer is actually interested in your motivations, values and your flagship experiences. It is important with this question that you curate your answers in a way that showcase who you are, what you are about and what you can do. You want to be able to answer this question in 3-5 minutes, to give your interviewers the choice to dig into the aspects of your background that they are most interested in. A common mistake is for people to wax lyrical about things that are of no interest to the interviewer only to find that they have run out of time. So learn to give just the right amount of information but also to be succint.
Why are you changing jobs or careers?
Here it is important to consider push and pull factors. Push factors are the things that are pushing you away from your current situation and pull factors are the things that are attracting you to the new opportunity. When you answer this question, it is important that you are portraying yourself as an action taker rather than someone who is reactive.
