If you have worked in a corporate environment, you are already accustomed to monthly, quarterly, mid year and annual reviews. It is also important to do a personal mid-year review to see how far you have come throughout the year, and to ensure that you have an amazingly productive second half of the year.
We all know that 2020 has been a crazy year with Covid-19, quarantine, the loss of so many companies and jobs, the travel industry being brought to it’s knees overnight, parents managing their jobs, businesses and teaching their children.
However it is still worthwhile to review your year in a meaningful way;
First consider the highlights of the year so far, the things you are proud of, the actions and achievements that you have had so far
Then consider the low points, the goals that you were not able to accomplish
Think about the lessons that you have learnt so far this year about yourself, your work, the people around you and the work
Life isn’t just about a collection of achievements but about the journey and the lessons that we learn on the way and how those lessons impact us as individuals
Think about what you could have done differently if you faced the same circumstances again
Sometimes progress comes in a way that we least expect it
If you are experiencing a set back, remember that in order to launch an object further in a catapult, you need to pull it back to increase the range of motion
Remember to consider the first half of this year through the lenses of grace and gratitude. Grace for yourself and gratitude for all that is good in your life.
Looking forward to the second half of the year, consider the following prompts
what is the one thing you want to have accomplished by December 31st?
Why is that goal important to you?
Why does this goal matter?
What can now happen in your life after you hit your goal?
What is the impact of you not hitting your goal?
Who do you need to be to accomplish your goals?
You need to be clear on who you need to be and to embody that in order to hit your goals.
Also consider the traffic light system that will help you hit the goals you set out for the rest of the year
What do you need to STOP doing
What do you need to CONTINUE doing
What do you need to START doing
Our identities need to be in line with the person that accomplishes the goals that they set out for themselves
