In today’s episode, we are doing things a bit differently with my guest, Marlena Cole, a certified dating and relationship coach at www.lovemeright.net. Marlena works with ambitious women to help them get what they want out of life and relationships. She helps them deal with their limiting beliefs so that they can focus on what they want rather than what can do wrong.

Marlena says that many ambitious career women over 40 are seeking men “on their level” who can appreciate their ambition and who they are, not men who will compete with them.

Marlena emphasizes the importance of women realizing the story they tell themselves when relationships don’t work out, so that it doesn’t become a cycle.

• Women need to separate what they do from who they are
• Men and women speak different languages. When women get into a relationship, they tend to bottom line the men, where they determine very quickly if this is someone they can build a life with. Men are focused on identifying if this is someone they connect with and can have fun with, their initial focus is on building a connection at a simple level
• If you are not meeting anyone eligible, the starting points are working on your mindset and working through the emotions from past experiences.

When you meet someone, the key things to watch out for are

• Your intuition
• Realize that your list doesn’t matter as much as you think it does. Many people go on to have relationships with people who are nothing like what they put down on their list
• Focus on the values that you share

To optimize your dating life;

• Be intentional, start taking deliberate action today
• Get a dating coach 
• Rewrite your love story, not based on your past but based on what you want it to be and start living as if that was your reality
• Forgiveness for the other people who may have hurt you in the past but especially for yourself
